NIAAA Student Athlete Scholarship

In accordance with National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association’s (NIAAA) purpose to promote, facilitate and increase the knowledge and understanding of the vital role of interscholastic athletics in the educational system, this scholarship program will foster and recognize the partnership between the NIAAA and secondary education. The scholarships will recognize the distinguished scholastic, leadership and sportsmanship attributes of high school student-athletes, and the importance of high school athletics in each student’s life.

The Nelson Thinnes, up to a, $500 Scholarship
Up to a $500 scholarship is awarded annually to a Senior in High School son or daughter of an active member of OIAAA. Factors such as financial need, scholastic achievement and leadership qualities shall be considered. Applicants must complete the required application and submit it to their District Representative. Applicants who have previously have been awarded this scholarship will only be considered if there are no other legitimate candidates during that year. A plaque will be presented to the scholarship winner at the OIAAA awards banquet in the Fall.

The Dow Nelson, up to a, $500 Scholarship
Up to a $500 scholarship is awarded annually to a Senior in High School son or daughter of an active member of OIAAA. Factors such as financial need, scholastic achievement and leadership qualities shall be considered. Applicants must complete the required application and submit it to their District Representative. Candidates for this award are recommended by and only taken from the district that is responsible for the state conference the previous year. A plaque will be presented to the scholarship winner at the OIAAA awards banquet in the Fall.

The Ralph and Nancy Young, up to a, $500 Scholarship
Up to a $500 scholarship is awarded annually to a Senior in High School son or daughter of an active member of OIAAA. Factors such as financial need, scholastic achievement, athletic achievement and leadership qualities shall be considered. Service of the parent(s) to their league, local, state and/or national athletic administrators associations, as well as service to OHSAA will be considered. Applicants must complete the required application and submit it to their District Representative. Applicants who have previously have been awarded this scholarship will only be considered if there are no other legitimate candidates during that year. A plaque will be presented to the scholarship winner at the OIAAA awards banquet in the Fall.
